An Evening in Honour
of Robert Burns
Houston’s traditional Burns Supper — an evening of haggis and whisky, the Address to a Haggis, the Immortal Memory and live ceilidh dancing, raising funds for charity since 2001.
The Evening
The order of a proper Burns Supper
The evening follows the form it has held for twenty-five years — equal parts ceremony, feast and good company, with special guest speakers joining us from Scotland in recent years. Here is how the night unfolds.
- 01
Champagne Reception
The evening opens with a champagne reception as the pipers warm the room.
- 02
Pipers & the Grand Entrance
Pipers lead the Grand Entrance into the ballroom to begin the night.
- 03
Address tae a Haggis
The haggis is piped in and honoured with Burns' own words, knife in hand — then toasted with a dram.
- 04
A Three-Course Supper
The supper is served — a traditional dinner with wine, the haggis taking pride of place.
- 05
The Immortal Memory
The keynote tribute to the life, works and fellowship of Robert Burns.
- 06
Toast tae the Lassies & Reply
The night's wittiest exchange, given and answered in fine Burns spirit.
- 07
Whisky Kiss, Live
Scotland's own ceilidh band, brought all the way to Houston.
- 08
Ceilidh til the Wee Hours
Vigorous dancing enjoyed by all — no experience required.

Haggis, neeps & tatties
The centrepiece of the table — honoured in verse, then enjoyed with a dram.

Our Story
Twenty-five years of fellowship in Houston
It began in 2001 as a Houston reunion for former BP and Britoil colleagues from Glasgow, convened by Peter Foster. The night struck a chord and grew quickly — a dedicated Burns Night Committee soon took over the running of it, and in 2010 it was incorporated as the non-profit Westside Burns Night Association.
A registered 501(c)(3), the Association hosts its annual Burns Supper to promote the life, works and fellowship of Robert Burns. Every year’s surplus is donated to local, state and national charities — more than $200,000 to date.
